Phase 1 - Quick Start

It doesn't matter if you only need to lose a few pounds or you are working on a major weight-loss goal, Phase 1 offers a realistic and delicious way to start losing your extra pounds. During Phase 1, the first two weeks of the diet, you'll enjoy normal-size helpings of lean meats and seafood (like chicken, beef, fish, and shrimp). With South Beach Diet Phase 1 your diet will include plenty of vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts. You'll also have salads with delicious olive oil in the dressing. What you won't eat during Phase 1: For the first 14 days you are on the diet you won't have any bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, or baked goods. And, no fruit.
Don't panic! You'll begin adding those things back into your diet again at the end of the first two weeks you are on the diet. But during Phase 1, these foods are not allowed. In addition, you won't eat candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, or sugar for the first two weeks. No beer, wine or alcohol, either. After this first phase, though, you'll be free to drink wine again and you'll enjoy a wide variety of desserts.
Although it sounds as if it may be difficult, you're going to be shocked at how painlessly two weeks will pass without these foods. The first day or two may be challenging as you learn a new way to approach food; but after that, it will seem like the only way to eat. And you'll be eating the foods that you enjoy with South Beach Diet Phase 1.

Phase 2 - Continued Weight Loss
During the Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet, you'll start to add back some of foods you avoided during the first two weeks.
